[Javert's pinched mouth twists into a carefully bland, neutral line. He averts his gaze from the chewed-off arm toward the city, and makes a sharp about-face to begin his brisk march onward. He fully expects Leonardo to scurry after him, though with his natural swift gait, his pace is a challenge to match.]
The market place. 'Round the fishing docks and the Bed and Crabfest, I imagine, [he returns over his shoulder, cold and calm.] They know me there. That complicates matters. You, though.
[And he pauses in his brisk walk to scrutinize Leonardo full in the eye. Like he's searching for something, brows knitted.]
Did they witness your face, when you overheard their shameless ideas?
You're a hard to miss kinda guy, reputation proceeds you, yadda yadda. [He flaps his hand back absently. Leo is doing his best to keep up, at least practiced in the art of keeping pace due to having so many siblings.]
I'm kinda hard to miss [Look at him, Javert. He skids to a stop as the man pauses his walk to stare at the turtle.] but, no, as far as I know they only saw the back of me.
[A contraction pulses upon Javert's face. Something is brewing behind that baleful, dark look in his eye, and if his reputation and capacity for brutish action precedes him, well... it was unlikely to be anything good. The Fog's tendrils curl around him with a curiosity akin to a spunky familiar, stroking a cheek, and turning to extend a pointed wisp in Leonardo's direction.
He slowly paces to Leonardo's back and stops a yard or two away, his claws sinking into his side-whiskers. He retreats into his imagination, fingers twisting at the thick hair growth, eyes tracing a scene visible only to his mind.
At length, he makes a rough, queer-sounding bark. A spark alights in his blood-red irises, a plan springing to life.]
The back! It is recognizable enough to work. You did not stick around long enough to see out their plans, I imagine, or to taunt them with your finely-polished shell?
[He resumes his walk at a clip, this time coaxing Leonardo closer with a hand pressed flat on his back. It is conspiratorial, close enough for them to put their heads together and murmur, should they wish it.]
I want you to meet someone, a dutiful fellow. We shall use him to our advantage tonight.
