[His brow furrows a little at that bit of information.] I'm assuming 'ronin's' don't do cell phones? [That is quite the air quotes around the word ronin Leo did with ease.] Or I'm assuming this is like yee olden times before they invented like... anything.
For real, we have a way better chance of solving stuff together. Even if I'm not the tech guy or anything. Usually, I can talk my way through stuff, but- kinda hard here.
Ronins are samurai without leaders. They wander place to place to different lords who need their services. [Donatello says it with a cocked head, like it should be obvious. Huh. Weird that Leo doesn't know that.] This dimension is basically Edo Period Japan. They don't have cellphones.
[Donatello sips his tea.] Oh, I'm sure you'll do alright. The people around here are friendly once you get to know them. [He assumes, of course, that Leo can speak and understand Japanese. What turtle wouldn't?]
Honestly, Donnie and I are the only ones who know enough Spanish to order from the Good pizza places, so, yeah. Not even a little Japanese. [The Puerto Rican pizza places cannot be beat some days.] I'm glad you know, otherwise, I feel like we'd have to teach folks charades to make conversations happen.
[He scrunches his snout a little.] Uh, Dad is from Japan, it's not a very big country, tea, they have great food, cool weapons? Raph watches anime, not me, so he knows more about it than I do. I know about clan stuff. Hamatos verses Foot Clan stuff has been taking place for centuries, yadda yadda.
[This kid's universe is very different from his, obviously.]
Al...right then. We'll just have to teach you as we go. [He waves vaguely outside.] For the record, manners matter a lot here. So just try to copy what I do when we meet people, okay? [There is going to be a steep learning curve. He can feel it in his bones.]
You know ninjutsu, though, right? Master Splinter taught you that?
Okay, manners. I can totally do that. [Or he can fake his way through manners. Leo is absolutely oblivious to the fact this is going to be hard just yet.
The prospect of something to do, and directions is helping Leo feel better though. He would rather laze about, but he can find ways to do that.]
Yeah, course. Between watching his shows and movies, Dad showed up some sick moves. We upgraded with help with Gram Gram too. We were stopping other mutants from committing crimes and dealt with Shreddy.
He pinches the base of his beak. Master Splinter watching shows? Gram Gram?Shreddy??
Donatello wonders briefly if he should ask about these things. Then decides it's going to make his head hurt worse.]
Alright. Well, we're going to have to keep up with training here. My Leo was stuck in this dimension before, and in two days he got sucked into a war, so it's not exactly safe. We'll have to figure out getting you a weapon, too...
[Donatello mumbles to himself, already making a list in his head. Without thinking about it, he's automatically taken on all the responsibility for this wayward turtle.]
Is it just turtle luck to be thrown into different dimensions? Cause we need to work on that if so. Absolutely uncool.
[He can't help but make a face at mention at training. By this point Raph has at least made him acquiesce to the idea occasionally. He's a bit more mature than he once was when this conversation came up in a TDM in ryslig, so he actually engages in the conversation a bit. He doesn't wanna plan training, but they are meeting in the middle here.] We talking like full formal training or like games? Raph usually led more ninja game level stuff. Generally, dad trained us off Lou Jitsu movies, which are absolutely bangin', but not super traditional.
You hand me a fish, a ladder or a bowl of soup, I can fight a guy with it.

[He pauses, realizing very quickly what the issue is.]
That's very cool, but, Don. I kinda only speak Spanish and English.

[Why doesn't Leo know that? Is their Splinter actually a Spanish rat or something?] How much do you know about Japanese culture?
